Beauty with Benefits
When it comes to beauty products, we often buy them because they make us feel good. Whether it’s a creamy vanilla shower gel, that perfect matte foundation or even a soft buttery moisturiser – there’s a full sensory experience involved in choosing the right product for your needs and feeling excited when you use it for the first time. To me, that’s the beauty of beauty! Feeling that sense of joy when you find a product that does everything you want it to and more. But what makes the whole experience even better is knowing that as a direct result of your purchase, someone else out there in the world is benefiting in some way. I love hearing about brands that give back and the different initiatives they come up with to aid local communities. Here are a few of my favourite brands that really know how to bottle up the warm fuzzies.

Yes To
The Yes To brand is all about giving their customers high quality products packed full of certified organic fruits and veges along with clinically proven ingredients that really work – all at a totally affordable price (win!). When it comes to giving back, Yes To has a mission to support disadvantaged youth and teach them how to live healthier lifestyles. Through their Yes To Hope campaign, the brand is aiming to supplement the daily lunches of 10,000 kids across Africa by the end of this year by providing funding for organic gardens in schools. When you buy a Yes To product, a portion of the proceeds go towards the Yes To Seed fund which enables the children it supports to learn about healthy living, and for many of the kids, provide them with the only meal they will eat in a day.

Trilogy
When it comes to eco-conscious brands, Trilogy is definitely one of the ones that continues to come out on top. With its incredible range of products (we’ve all heard of the famous Rosehip Oil) and its total commitment to environmental and social responsibility, Trilogy is always the first company to spring to mind for me when I think about brands that give back to society. Earlier this year, Trilogy launched their Helping Hand Wash campaign to support the Child’s i Foundation (CiF), which works with women and children in Uganda. One hundred percent of the profits from each bottle of Trilogy Helping Hand wash go directly to CiF, to run projects to help care for abandoned babies and mothers in need, placing children in loving homes. It’s a small charity in Uganda but one that is making a huge difference to its people. With the support of Trilogy it’s hoped that the campaign can eventually cover the cost of six CiF social workers in Uganda to integrate children safely back into their own families or find support for them in adoptive families instead.

The Body Shop
When it comes to campaigns, no one does it quite like The Body Shop. From using certified sustainable palm oil, to the use of Community Fair Trade ingredients in 80% of their products and complying with the requirements of the Humane Cosmetics Standard to never test any of their products on animals, it’s safe to say The Body Shop has nailed it when it comes to creating a truly ethical brand. But the campaign that has really put The Body Shop on the map over the past few years is the Stop campaign, to bring an end to child sex trafficking around the world with the help of ECPAT International. Since it’s inception in 2009, over 7 million campaign petitions were signed making it one of the largest petitions in the history of the United Nations. As a direct result, 20 countries across the globe have made a commitment to long-term legislative change to help protect children and young people against sex trafficking. It’s beyond sickening to hear that 1.2 million children and young people each year are being trafficked for sexual exploitation and cheap labour, so it’s good to know that The Body Shop has made huge headway in bringing awareness to this horrific criminal industry.

Looking at the impact that these companies have had on their chosen charities and causes, it’s great to know that with our support they really are making a difference. Just a little something to keep in mind next time you’re tossing up over a new face wash or hand cream!
Happy shopping,
