Chiropractic Health

When it comes to good health, a healthy spine is as important as a good diet and good exercise program, and Chiropractic care plays a unique role in enhancing the function and performance of your body. Accidents, poor posture and stresses in our lives, all lead to improper motion or position of the bones of the spine (vertebrae), which can often be felt as neck and back pain, tiredness, muscle weakness, tension, stiffness or headaches.

Chiropractic care is a holistic healthcare modality that focuses on the relationship between the structure of the body (principally the spine and pelvis) and the way the body functions. The skull protects the delicate tissue of the brain and the spinal column protects the nervous system (the intricate pathway of nerves that coordinate the way our body moves and transmits signals to and from the brain). If these pathways are impaired, either by an injury or misalignment, the body’s organs and tissues cannot function properly. Chiropractors correct these misalignments by gently adjusting the position of the vertebrae of the spine, with the aim of allowing your body to properly self-regulate, adapt and heal.

Doctors of Chiropractic (also referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians) practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle advice.

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.”  The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in their movement as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as a car crash, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished health and function for the sufferer. Manipulation of the affected joint and tissue restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, all with the aim of allowing tissues and the body as a whole, to heal.

Chiropractors, with their specialised training, are able to assess the spine and find subtle problems long before pain or obvious symptoms are present. By improving the spine, we are able to fine tune your body to improve overall health and enhance your performance leading to a stronger, more flexible you. Other common benefits include increased energy, improved coordination and balance, faster recovery and improved fitness capacity.
