Have you always been healthy and happy? Share your journey, which has landed you in the health industry…
No and am thankful that I have experienced such ill health in my past as it has made me so passionate about spreading a healthy message today!
I was chronically ill from the age of 11, with chemical poisoning and glandular fever which led me to then suffer from M.E/CFS for the next 9 years. I spent a large portion of my teenage years subjected to endless medical tests and specialist visits, but it was my discovery of natural medicine that helped me regain my full health, fuelling my desire to become a Naturopath. Despite the fact that I regained my health through non-conventional methods, I fully support integrative medicine and encourage my patients to seek the best advice from both worlds.
I absolutely treasure my good health now as I know just how quickly it can be taken away and it can be a very hard and confusing road trying to gain it back again. My focus with my blog and social media posts is to encourage people to be proactive with maintaining good health while keeping a focus on a happy and balanced life along the way.
Tell us about how you contribute to the health and happiness of others and/ or our environment?
I specialise in providing advice and support across natural health and wellbeing, offering my clients and some 20,000 followers a balanced and holistic approach to living a healthy life across all areas of their being, whether it be emotional, physical, green living, healthy eating, sustainable fashion, natural beauty, or holistic parenting. The Renée Naturally blog is a place to share, learn, laugh, inspire and be inspired. It’s about being part of a community of kindred spirits that value health, energy, and growth without losing balance.
What do you believe is most important to nourish the body for optimal health and happiness?
A positive outlook! I think that when you have an optimistic and open approach to wellness, you are more inclined to make (and stick to!) positive diet and lifestyle changes you make to enhance your health.
What food, drinks and other important regimens make up your typical day?
I always start my day by doing a tongue scrape (an Ayurvedic practice for detoxification), followed by hot water and lemon and ginger. I usually incorporate a smoothie into my diet somewhere throughout the day, and I love experiencing with ingredients such as LSA, acai berry, chia seeds, vital protein powder, coconut water, kale etc…I come up with new concoctions weekly so always use a variety of fruit and vegetables. I love yoga and try to do at least a few dedicated stretches daily although don’t beat myself up when I miss a day as life just gets away with us sometimes! I also keep active by going on bush walks with my son. I love cooking and find any excuse to create something new on a daily basis as I find the creative aspect of coming up with healthy alternatives to some of my fave (not-so-healthy) dishes really therapeutic.
Do you routinely supplement your diet?
I always take a probiotic, vital greens powder and fish oils, and then other supplements change out according to the season, my state of health at the time and my desire to introduce new super foods into my diet.
What was your latest inspiring health read?
I’m constantly reading and inspired by online by like-minded souls like yourself! The last health book that I read was Beauty From The Inside Out by Dr Libby Weaver. It was great.
